The White House last month announced in a May 10 statement that President Biden and the First Lady would host Prime Minister Modi for an “official state visit to the United States, which would include a state banquet on June 22, 2023”. “Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visit will reaffirm the deep and close partnership between the United States and India that binds Americans and Indians together,” the statement said.
What is the significance of PM Modi’s visit?
Such tours usually last for several days and include elaborate ceremonies. For example, Prime Minister Modi will have 10 programs there in 72 hours. Special dinners are held in such ceremonies, diplomatic gifts are exchanged, arrangements are made to stay in the US President’s guest house, which is called Blair House. Prime Minister Modi’s official visit will also begin with a 21-gun salute by President Biden on the South Lawn of the White House in the presence of over 7,000 Indian-American attendees. The two leaders will then leave for a bilateral meeting, which will be followed by delegation talks and a joint press address.

According to American diplomacy, the President can host any leader of any country once in 4 years, which is his entire term and this time Biden has given this honor to Prime Minister Modi.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi was on a working visit in 2014 at the invitation of the then President Barack Obama. After that in 2016, he had a working lunch in the presence of the then Vice President Joe Biden. In 2017, he went on an official working visit.
