On this special occasion, let us know the interesting things about Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra and its religious significance.

Jagannath Rath Yatra 2023: Know special things related to Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra

Lord Jagannath’s chariot is called Nandighosh, Balarama’s chariot is named Taal Dhwaj and Subhadra’s chariot is named Darpadalan Rath. The well with which the Lord is bathed on the full moon day of Jyestha month opens only once in a year.

Not a single nail is used in the chariot of Lord Jagannath (Jagannath Ratha Yatra 2023). This chariot is completely made of wood, even no metal is used in the chariot. The wood for the chariot is selected on the day of Basant Panchami and the making of the chariot begins on the day of Akshaya Tritiya.

There are a total of 16 wheels in the chariot of Lord Jagannath of Puri. Lord Jagannath’s chariot is of red and yellow color and this chariot is also slightly bigger than the other two chariots. Lord Jagannath’s chariot moves at the back, first Balabhadra chariot and then Subhadra’s chariot.

Due to the dark complexion of Lord Jagannath, the same neem wood was used which is dark in colour. On the other hand, due to the fair complexion of his siblings, light colored neem wood is used for their idols.

Lord Jagannath is always bathed with water in 108 pitchers in the bath. Every year Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra ji visit the city and reach Gundicha temple in Janakpur from Jagannath temple on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month.

Gundicha Temple is the home of Lord Jagannath’s maternal aunt. After reaching here, all the three idols are brought down according to the rules and regulations. Then it is established at the aunt’s house.
